Choosing a point-of-sale system is one of the most important software decisions a retailer, pharmacy or distributor makes. The wrong system slows your counter, hides losses and makes compliance painful. Here is the checklist we use with clients.
1. Does billing work without internet?
Power and internet outages are a reality. An offline-first POS keeps billing and syncs automatically when the connection returns. Ask vendors to demo it with the network unplugged.
2. Is FBR digital invoicing built in?
If you are a Tier-1 retailer, FBR integration is mandatory. Provincial sales tax on services (PRA, SRB, KPRA, BRA) may apply too. A POS with native integration saves you from a second system.
3. Can it grow to multiple branches?
Look for centralised pricing, branch-to-branch stock transfers and comparative reports — without a migration when you open branch two.
4. Is inventory real-time?
Stock that updates at the moment of sale, with low-stock alerts and reorder suggestions, frees up cash tied in dead stock.
5. Does it support your industry?
Pharmacies need batch, expiry and salt-wise search. Distributors need customer-wise rate lists and credit ageing. Mobile shops need IMEI tracking.
6. Local payments and couriers
Easypaisa, JazzCash, bank gateways, and couriers such as TCS and BlueEx should connect out of the box.
7. Mobile apps for your team
Field sales, recovery and online order apps extend your POS beyond the counter.
8. Who supports it?
A local team with a real response time matters more than a feature list.
